Busy Boro ready for new campaign

HARD WORK CONTINUES ON AND OFF THE PITCH

-

IT has been another busy week for Farnborough as they prepare for their first National League South game of the season on Saturday.

Spencer Day’s men rounded off an eventful pre-season with a 1-0 home win over Alan Devonshire’s Maidenhead United last weekend.

Omar Rowe’s 34th-minute header saw off the National League visitors in a tight game at Cherrywood Road.

In midweek, Boro recorded a 3-1 win at Isthmian League Premier Division outfit Corinthian-Casuals with goals from Ollie Robinson, Rowe and Jack Ball.

Farnborough start a long-awaited return to the National League South this Saturday away to Hemel Hempstead Town on their 3G pitch, kickoff 3pm.

The club have also been busy off the pitch as they secured the signature of winger Selim Saied for the 2022-23 season.

The 19-year-old returns for his second season at Cherrywood Road following his release from Woking at the end of last season.

Saied made 17 starts in the Southern League Premier South throughout 2021-22 as Farnborough secured promotion to the National League South.

The tricky winger scored two memorable goals in the Hampshire Senior Cup last season – a spectacular finish against Aldershot Town last year, along with the opening goal in the Hampshire Senior Cup Final at Eastleigh.

Also off the field, Farnborough have secured a deal with BR Saunders Transport Ltd to become the club’s new prime shirt sponsor, with Duncan Saunders appointed as managing director of the new community trust.

The first team playing kits will have an exciting fresh look with the BR Saunders Transport logo proudly displayed on the front of the home, away and both goalkeeper shirts.

BR Saunders Transport Ltd is a family-run business that has been operating since 1952. The specialist haulage company is based in Walton-on-Thames.

Farnborough Football Club are delighted to be partnering with the firm this year as the company celebrates its 70th anniversary.

Saunders joins the club’s community trust with immediate effect and is tasked with overseeing projects undertaken in the community.

With thanks to The National League Trust, participants are encouraged to get involved with sport and other initiatives held by the Club Community Organisation.

The National League Trust is a charity that offers grant aid to National League clubs to support and develop community projects.

Saunders said: “Thank you to Farnborough Football Club for introducing me. I’m very excited about the future, both on and off the pitch. The past few weeks the club has made me feel very welcome. It’s amazing to see the amount of hard work that goes in from the volunteers, in every department, to make the club work.

“All the fans and sponsors have been very co-operative so far and we’re looking forward to a bigger and brighter future back in the National League South.”

Chairman Simon Gardener said:

“On behalf of everyone connected with the club I welcome Duncan Saunders to Farnborough Football Club and look forward to working alongside him.

“I’ve known Duncan for a good few years and with his wealth of knowledge, hard work and ambition it can only benefit and help the club continue to move forward.”
