School extension details
North Lanarkshire Council has published details of its planned extension for Chryston High School.
The proposals include expanded teaching facilities, new sports areas with a new pitch and an early years unit, as well as additional car parking and new walking and cycling routes through the site.
In addition to the existing school, the site in Lindsaybeg Road also features Chryston Cultural Centre, a biomass boiler house, playgrounds, a football pitch and parking as well as the former Chryston Primary School and Snowdrop Nursery, previously a private nursery.
Both of these buildings would be demolished once the extension is built.
BAM Construction has been appointed by Hub South West as the preferred contractor for the project.
The wider design team consists of BDP Architects, Blyth & Blyth (civil and structural engineers) and Hulley & Kirkwood (mechanical and electrical engineers).
A statement on the council’s website reads: “This project will also look to create a design that facilitates community use of the building outwith the school day.
“In addition to providing additional spaces for secondary pupils, the project will also include space for Snowdrop Nursery to relocate into this new facility, strengthening connections between the school community and the third-sector nursery.
“This project is the third project within the ‘ Chryston Campus’ and follows on from the Chryston Community Hub and Health Clinic project, along with upgrades to Moor Park.
“Together they show significant levels of investment and place-making within this local area.”
