Airdrie church to host special events to mark 175th birthday
Jackson Parish Church in Airdrie is set to mark its 175th anniversary year with a number of special events.
The church, which is situated on Glen Road, Petersburn, kicked off the celebrations by hosting a fun day in June for the children of the parish.
Hundreds of excited youngsters of all ages took part in a range of fun activities which included an inflatable slide, beat the goalie competition, children’s roundabout, splat the rat, and a throw the sponge event, which saw the church’s popular minister Kay Gilchrist“getting a soaking”in the process.
And all the youngsters who attended the event also received a free drink, hot dog, candy floss and popcorn treats, thanks to the generosity of the kind-hearted members of the local community.
A representative from the church told the Advertiser:“It went extremely well.
“Initially, we had hoped to have around 500 and 600 kids attending, but in the end there were over 800 children from the community.”
The festivities will continue next month with a special service being celebrated in the church on September 8, at 11am, to which all members of the congregation and local community are invited to attend; the festivities continue on September 14 with an anniversary dinner dance, which again is open to all.
And the events will culminate later in the year with a free community gospel concert to be held at the church on November 29.
Organisers welcome both past and present members of the congregation and local community to join them in celebrating this momentous year in the church’s calendar.
