Tudor Hotel bash raises £15k for good cause
An annual charity boxing show took a welcome 10 count as it celebrated a decade of fundraising success.
The popular event organised by Lodge Old Monkland St James 177 turned Airdrie’s Tudor Hotel into the Las Vegas MGM Grand for one night only in aid of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity – and once again raised an incredible five-figure sum.
Patrons rose to the challenge by donating in excess of £15,000 – meaning more than £150,000 has been generated for the charity since the event’s 2007 inception.
The sell- out show is held in memory of tragic David Reid who lost his brave battle with cancer aged just six.
David’s parents Graham and Lesley were indebted to staff for the care he received at Yorkhill – now Glasgow Children’s Hospital – and wanted to raise funds to support their essential work.
All the money raised on Friday will go towards enhancing the neurological ward at the children’s hospital, which opened to inpatients in 2015.
Kirsten Sinclair, director of fundraising for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “We are incredibly grateful to all the members of Lodge Old Monkland St James 177 for providing such incredible support to our young patients over the past 10 years. Their contribution to the Royal Hospital for Children has been invaluable and they have made a real and lasting difference to the lives of our young patients’”.
Immediate Past Master Charles Clark paid tribute to everyone who has supported the lodge’s charity efforts since 2007.
He said: “I would like to thank everyone for their continued support over the last 10 years to raise such a fantastic sum of money for this wonderful charity.
“I thought the night was one of the best in terms of boxing and a massive thanks to the Tudor Hotel once again for allowing us to host our boxing event in a beautiful venue.
“I would personally like to thank Mark Darroch of Darroch Insulation for his continued sponsorship over the last seven years and to Past Master Allan Logan for his continuous support in making this a special night for number 177.
“I’d also like to thank Lillian Paterson and all her assistants on the night, who once again helped make this another memorable night for all at 177.”
Past Master Allan Logan, who was instrumental in the event’s inception, said: “It has been a privilege to be involved in this boxing show over the last 10 years.
“If it has helped create a legacy in the memory of David Reid and helped one child that is an achievement in itself, over and above the monetary achievements.”
