- MarkM Pirie

AirdrieoniansAird midfielder Ryan Conroy called for his side to keep league leaders LivingstonLiv within touching distancedi as they look to put their nightmare StenhousemuirS display behindb them.

Bottom of the table Stenny le left the Excelsior Stadium with a fiv five-goal win over Airdrieonians an and ended the Diamonds’ sixgame gam league winning run. Ho However, Conroy hopes the loss will spursp them on as they prepare for the topto of the table clash at the Tony Macaro Macaroni stadium. “It givesgi us a point to prove,” said the win winger. “We need to put the result behind us and bounce back. “Yo “You can’t dwell on it or you’ll end upgup going on a bad run, so we’ll dust ou ourselves down and look ahead to the next game.

“It’s the same as when you win, you put it behind you and move onto the next game.

“It’s a massive match now next week - probably bigger than it was - but going there and putting in a good performance is the best thing we can do now.”

He admitted that the side were embarrassed following the heavy defeat, particularly after Airdrie’s good run had taken them to a point away from top spot in League One.

“I think we have let ourselves down big time. All the boys are devastated,” said the 29-year-old.

“We started the game well and had chances in the opening five minutes, but after we conceded the goal we never really got back into it.

“The goal was the turning point, as it is in most games, but it’s a slack goal to lose.

“We had been playing brilliant for the past few weeks and we should have taken confidence into the game, but the

two quick goals and Daniel (Boateng) getting sent off didn’t help us.

“It’s still not as good as we’ve been. These things happen and we should have dealt with it better.

“They scored from that free- kick and we didn’t really have the chance to come together. “It was a double punishment.” Boss Mark Wilson also felt it was key that the Airdrie team take a hard look at themselves following the loss and ahead of the big game this weekend: “We will regroup and be better next time.

“We’ll analyse it and work on it because there is an important game coming up. “There is a long way to go. “If we had won and they lost I would have stood here and said the same thing.

“It’s only December – these next few games are going to be the important ones.

“The Christmas period tends to shape your season.”
