Walkers are Tickled Pink

-

Customers and staff at Asda in Coatbridge got behind a fundraising group who hit the road in aid of the Tickled Pink campaign.

The supermarket’s community champion, Ann Binks, led a group of six walkers including relatives and former colleagues – plus “four kids, a baby and a dog!”– for their challenge on foot for a sponsored route around Strathclyde Park.

After completing the challenge in unseasonal “scorching” weather, they raised more than £1800 for the campaign, which supports charities Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now and is now in its 20th year.

The bumper total was boosted by two separate anonymous donations of £300 each, adding to the generous sponsorship given by shoppers and colleagues at the Main Street store.

Salsburgh resident Ann told the Advertiser: “It was a fantastic day – we couldn’t believe the weather – and we were delighted with how much has been raised.

“We’d previously done a sponsored walk for Tickled Pink at Drumpellier Park, but I hadn’t walked Strathclyde Park before; I didn’t realise how big it is but we managed to complete our route in about 90 minutes.

“Our store couldn’t be happier with the incredible contribution from customers and colleagues; the support has been fantastic.

“We’re really pleased to support two fantastic charities that make a real difference to people affected by breast cancer.”
