Rovers on a roll says manager Young

Underdogs surprise full-time Livingston

- Colin Paterson

Darren Young saluted inform Albion Rovers and admitted: We’re on a roll.

The Coatbridge underdogs stunned full- time Livingston at the weekend and emerged from Almondvale with a 2-1 win.

Rovers are now up to fourth place in League One and a point better off than they were at the same stage last season.

Player/manager Young is thrilled with his team’s progress and believes they have the momentum to push on.

He said: “I’m delighted with the win and delighted with the performance. I thought the performance from start to finish was brilliant.

“We created a load of chances and really the only complaints from the game were that we didn’t take more of them. There were four or five really good chances where we should have either hit the target or got the shot away earlier and created more of a problem.

“We’ve got four wins out of five and we’re a point better off than we were this time last year – even though our performances at the start of the season didn’t really reflect the points we had.

“Now we’re starting to pick up results and we’re on a roll.

“Last season we had a lot of pats on the back. This year it’s a good start but there’s a long way to go.

“However, if we can put in performances like that every week then hopefully we can be up and around the play-offs.

“We want to kick on and see if we can pick up another 14 points or better in the next quarter.”

Rovers – who host Peterhead this weekend – earned victory thanks to goals from Steven Boyd and Ryan Wallace.

The prolific pair are making Rovers tick w ith Young commending Boyd for his contribution since joining on loan from Hamilton Accies.

He added: “Steven has come in and been outstanding for us.

“You can single him out for the goal he scored and the pass through for the second – but he does the dirty stuff as well and gets stuck in.”

Young also praised Rovers’ rearguard action which continues to improve following a difficult start to the campaign.

He said: “It was a disciplined display where everyone did their job and did it well.

“We were really solid and we were up against a full-time team – so a lot of credit has to go to our guys.

“Everyone put in a shift and did their job and they all know that if they don’t there are guys on the sidelines that will come in and take their place.”
