No Mes-sing around as rockers launch new EP

-

Indie rockers Mesmerene have reflected on a whirlwind 12 months which has culminated with the launch of their new EP this week.

The band, whose members hail from Motherwell and Shotts, ended last year with gigs at Glasgow’s King Tuts and Oran Mor as well playing the likes of Broadcast and Nice n Sleazys earlier this year. And the four-piece have now enjoyed the sell-out launch of EP Battlescars at Glasgow’s 13th Note. Drummer Scott Somers has been delighted with the band’s progress since they have settled on their current line-up. Mesmerene on their whirlwind year

He said: “The launch night sold out pretty quickly which is great for us.

“It marked almost a year to the day since we got this line-up together and since then we’ve been doing alright.

“Over the summer months we will spend a bit of time promoting the EP with more gigs to come later in the year.”

After forming in October 2013, Mesmerene settled on their current line-up this time last year.

Scott, together with vocalist Franny McKeown, guitarist Scott Jamieson and bassist David Wilkie have now created a exciting batch of songs which are winning them new fans with many flocking to the group’s social media sites.

The band’s sound takes in a wide range of musical genres but their main influences come from bands such as Radiohead, Oasis, Blur and Nirvana.

The lads recorded their latest effort at the 45ASide Studios in Glasgow alongside the watchful eye of Motherwell producer Bruce Rintoul who has worked with the likes of Twin Atlantic and Fatherson.

And with tracks such as Fire and Ashes and These Days included it’s easy to see why Mesmerene are building up such a highly dedicated fan following.

Scott added: “Bruce has worked with some big bands and got a really good pedigree so it was great to have the chance to work with him.

“I didn’t realise that he used to live just round the corner from me in Motherwell so that was quite funny but he did a great job for us.

“The songs sound brilliant and exactly what we wanted.

“We’ve managed to get the songs sounding exactly the way we wanted and Ed Woods mastered the EP great as well.”

Mesmerene’s new EP Battlescars is on sale now from i-Tunes, Spotify and from the band’s Facebook page.
