Actor picks up award for her performance as the Vicar of Dibley

-

OSWALDTWISTLE Players’ Stefanie Baron, is celebrating her success after winning the coveted ‘Best Female Lead in a Play’ award from National Operatic and Drama Association North West.

Stefanie faced stiff competition to win the award for her portrayal of the vicar, Geraldine Grainger, in the stage version of classic The Vicar of Dibley, a role made famous by Dawn French.

She was presented with the trophy in a ceremony on Saturday, January 21, at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel, Clayton-le-Moors.

Stefanie said: “I was absolutely delighted to get the opportunity to play the role of the Vicar of Dibley.

“It really was the opportunity of a lifetime and I had the time of my life doing it. Genuine blood, sweat and tears went into learning all my lines and stage directions as the part itself was enormous – I was never off the stage in the whole two-hour performance each night.

“To be nominated was an incredible achievement, but to win was a feeling I cannot describe. We played to a full house every night all roaring with laughter throughout, which is the best feeling in the world”.

The Oswaldtwistle Players production currently in rehearsal is the hilarious, moving and up-lifting drama ‘Brassed Off’, adapted from the 1996 film starring Ewan McGregor.

It will run from April 26-29, at The Civic Theatre, Oswaldtwistle. See www.oswaldtwistle players.co.uk.
