Sharjah seizes 275 illegally-parked bicycles in three-day crackdown
sharjah — As many as 275 bicycles were confiscated by the Sharjah Municipality during a massive crackdown that lasted three days and covered different areas of the emirate.
The civic body carried out intensified inspection targeting bicycles that are chained to light poles and signs boards on the main roads after midnight, said Mohammed Al Kaabi, head of the cleaning section at Sharjah Municipality. The municipality inspectors, in coordination with the Sharjah Environment Company (Bee’ah), destroy the seized bicycles as part of the efforts to maintain the cleanliness and preserving the aesthetic look of the emirate, he pointed out. These bicycles not just distort Sharjah’s image but also hinder the movement of traffic and passersby, Al Kaabi pointed out.
The municipality would not tolerate any negative practice and inspection campaigns will be continued to take action against the illegal parking of cycles in undesignated places, he added. Al Kaabi reaffirmed the municipality’s keenness to ensure a healthy environment and provide its residents as well as visitors all amenities that boosts their quality of life.
He urged the people to cooperate in preserving public facilities, urban environment and clean appearance of the city by refraining from locking bicycles to lamp posts on main roads and in a way that impedes the movement of passersby and threatens their safety.
