DMCC-Battuta Metro tracks open next week
dubai — Starting April 19, Metro commuters no longer have to ride a shuttle between the DMCC (Station 37) and Ibn Battuta (Station 39) Metro stations, as the railway connecting the two is set to open. However, the station between them — Nakheel Harbour and Tower — and the attached multilevel parking terminal will remain closed until further notice.
Since January 5, 2018, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) had completely closed the Dubai Metro Red Line between the DMCC and Ibn Battuta Metro stations as part of its Route 2020 Project requirements.
With this project, the RTA is constructing a new Metro station that will link the Expo 2020 site to an existing station at the Dubai Metro Red Line. The line extends 15km from Nakheel Harbour and Tower Station (11.8 km elevated track, and 3.2 km underground track).
According to a report last March, the entire Route 2020 Project is 70 per cent complete.
“The RTA makes every effort to ensure the smooth running of public transit services seamlessly,”
RTA was keen to provide free shuttle buses throughout the closure to ensure the smooth mobility of riders.”
Mohammed Al Mudharreb, director, rail operations, RTA
said Mohammed Yousef Al Mudharreb, director of rail operations at the RTA’s Rail Agency.
“RTA was keen to provide free shuttle buses throughout the closure of the two metro stations to ensure the smooth mobility of riders and not cause any inconvenience from the on-going construction works. The step echoes the RTA’s vision of providing safe and smooth transport for all,” added Al Mudharreb.
