Switch off lights for Earth Hour on Saturday, Dewa tells residents
dubai — Residents are urged to join the world in observing Earth Hour on Saturday from 8.30pm to 9.30pm, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) said.
Dewa is organising Earth Hour activities for the fourth year in a row, determined to offset carbon emissions as part of its strategy to protect the environment.
“Dewa is committed to the best green standards in all its projects and operations. Our activities implement the highest standards in environmental conservation and carbon reduction in line with our efforts to achieve Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and make Dubai the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa.
Everyone is encouraged to show their support for the planet by turning off non-essential lights and electric appliances between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Saturday.
“This year’s activities are anchored on our success in the past three years in organising zero-carbon Earth Hour activities by offsetting emissions, based on the Kyoto Protocol of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change,” Al Tayer said.
Dewa has also invited the public to participate in activities at Marasi Promenade Business Bay in Dubai.
Observing Earth Hour also supports national efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and pollution as well as to develop sustainable solutions to global warming, climate change and environmental protection.
