Voters happiest with MPs in Kerala, Rajasthan, Gujarat

-

new delhi — Voters in Kerala, Rajasthan and Gujarat are most satisfied with their outgoing Members of Parliament (MPs) while those in Uttarakhand, Goa, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are least happy with the performance of their elected representatives.

The latest findings of the CVOTER-IANS State of the Nation tracker poll spells a worrying sign for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as only one state ruled by it figures in the top three of the satisfaction chart.

All the states at the bottom of the ladder — Uttarakhand, Goa and Uttar Pradesh — are ruled by the BJP while Tamil Nadu, where least number of people are satisfied with their MPs, has the AIADMK in power which has tied up with the

BJP for the Lok Sabha polls.

The survey showed that 52.4 per cent of over 2,0178 respondents in Kerala were “very much satisfied” with the performance of their MPs.

In Rajasthan, 38.8 per cent were happy and in Gujarat 36.3 per cent said they were very satisfied.

BJP-ruled Maharashtra and Telangana

Rashtra Samithi (TRS)ruled Telangana are the other two states in the top five.

In high-stake Uttar Pradesh, ruled by BJP’s Hindutva mascot Yogi Adityanath, the satisfaction level with the sitting MP was only 28.2 per cent in a sample of 47,815.

Only Tamil Nadu with and approval rating of mere 18.2 is below Uttar Pradesh if Union Territories are not taken into account.

Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh also saw most voters (43 per cent in TN and 43.3 per cent in Uttar Pradesh) saying they were not at all satisfied with the outgoing MPs.

The net approval rating in Tamil Nadu was in the negative while for Uttar Pradesh it was only 8.2.

Satisfaction level of voters with sitting MPs will play heavily on the distribution of ticket as there are indications that the BJP might not give another chance to a large number of sitting law makers to beat anti-incumbency. Only those who have performed and won appreciation from the voters through work can expect to get the ticket. —
