Over 700 warned for posting illegal ads
abu dhabi — Clearing the Capital of illegal advertisements and random posters, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADM) has issued a total of 717 warnings and 33 offences and removed 33 unlicensed ads since the start of the year.
All advertisements posted anywhere — from lampposts to bus stops, building walls and elsewhere in the streets or any other public or private facility — must be approved and licensed by relevant authorities, the ADM reiterated as it stepped up its awareness campaign that runs across the city and its outskirts.
Fines for violators range from Dh1,000 to Dh10,000, according to General Appearance Law No. (2/2012) and the Preservation of the Public Places Regulation.
In the first quarter of 2018 alone, 214 violators were logged, while 220 offences were recorded in the second quarter and 283 in the third.
Posting illegal publicity materials — be it for an individual, an institution or a business — creates eyesores that damage the general appearance of the city, the ADM said. “The Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities at the Abu Dhabi City Municipality urges the public to contribute towards preserving the image of cities, promoting values of social responsibility, and supporting the municipality’s efforts in (the upkeep of) streets, buildings and public and private facilities,” it added.
As part of its awareness drive, the civic body is set to hold lectures in residential areas and community forums, along with a social media campaign.
