dubai — One person was killed and two sustained injuries in an accident that involved a pick-up truck and two cars on Emirates Road on Tuesday.

Brigadier Saeed Hamad bin Sulaiman Al Malek, director of Al Rashidiya Police Station, said the Dubai Police operations room was notified about the accident in the afternoon. When patrol cars arrived at the accident scene, it was found that the driver of the pick-up truck had rammed into the car ahead after failing to keep a safe distance between the vehicles. Due to the impact of the collision, the car crashed into a third vehicle.

The accident left the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident dead, and his co-passenger and the driver of the second vehicle injured.

Major causes of accidents

Sudden swerving, speeding and tailgating were among the major causes of accidents in Dubai.

Sudden swerving caused 426 accidents which resulted in 12 deaths and 393 injuries in the last nine months of this year, while speeding led to 25 accidents that claimed six lives and left 28 people injured, according to Dubai Police statistics. Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director of the general department of traffic, said speeding incidents were the major reason for reducing speed limits on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road. The trucks and light vehicles as well as a large number of drivers exceeded the speed limit, posing a grave risk to road users.
