sharjah — An Arab man has been charged with resisting police arrest and assaulting a cop while issuing threats in Sharjah Sharia Court of First Instance. He was also accused of ramming his car into a police vehicle.

According the Abu Dhabi police investigation team, the accused was wanted in a series of financial cases filed against him six years ago. They went ahead with executing the arrest after getting legal nod from authorities concerned and arrest warrant from Abu Dhabi public prosecution.

The accused was driving a Nissan car in Sharjah when he was asked to get down by the police so they could arrest him. The first witness said that the man first rammed his car into the police vehicle. He then got out of his car and insulted the cops using bad words. After this, he fled into a house resisting his arrest.

The second witness said he joined the police team when the accused ran into the house and threatened

his colleagues with expulsion as he claimed to know senior police officials. He also assaulted the leader of the police team.

During the court hearing, the accused denied the charges levelled against him. He said the cops asked him to get down as he was in his car with his wife and children. He said he asked them to show their identity cards as the cops were dressed in in plain clothes. When they refused, he refused to be arrested by them.

The defendant denied that he had insulted or issued any threats against the police officers. He also said that the second witness — who testified in the court — was not actually a member of the police team that came to arrest him. The case was adjourned and will be heard at a later date.
