Man held with heroin pills in stomach
ras al khaimah — The Ras Al Khaimah Police have foiled an attempt to smuggle 103 capsules of heroin through the RAK International Airport.
The drugs, weighing 1kg, have been valued at Dh500,000, according to a top police officer.
Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commanderin-Chief of the RAK Police, said the heroin was extracted from the guts of a passenger at the arrivals terminal.
Col Ibrahim Kabtin, Director of the RAK Anti-Narcotics Department, said they were initially alerted by police sources that a passenger would try to smuggle narcotics into the country through the airport.
A team was formed to monitor the suspect when he arrived at the airport. “The Asian suspect looked anxious and exhausted, but managed to safely head to a hotel apartment in the emirate.”
The anti-narcotics team raided the man’s room, where 98 capsules of heroin were found. “Five other capsules were later extracted from his guts at the hospital.”
The suspect admitted to having swallowed the capsules to smuggle into the country. “He told the police that he swallowed the narcotics one day before flying to the country.” He stopped eating for around 24 hours to keep the capsules undamaged, he elaborated. “That posed a grave risk to his life as any leak would have poisoned him,” he said, adding that the suspect and drugs were referred to the public prosecution.
