Dubai Police to reward 1,800 ‘ideal’ motorists under the ‘white point’ system in emirate.

dubai — The General Department of Traffic of the Dubai Police has announced that they will increase the number of ideal drivers who will be awarded as part of the ‘white point’ system to 1,800, and that a car will be provided by Al Hilal company.

Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of Operations for Dubai Police, said that last year the number of drivers who were awarded for receiving 24 white points was 1,500.

He said that Al Hilal company will participate in the white point system by providing a car, and the number of winners will be increased every year to encourage drivers to abide by traffic laws. During a Press conference held at the Traffic Department, Al Zafin signed the agreement between the Dubai Police and Al Hilal to provide a car to the winner as well as other prizes.

He said that the initiative will be evaluated after 10 years, and is expected to generate other initiatives across the UAE. Major-General Al Zafin noted that reckless drivers don’t pay attention to prizes, so the Federal Traffic Council has recommended detaining them for 24 hours as punishment. Quoting the statistics, he said 53 people were killed in traffic accidents since the beginning of the year and 46,200 sustained moderate injuries and 262 received minor injuries. In the first three months of the year, people aged 18 to 36 had caused the deaths of 31 people and 31 serious injuries, while those in the age group of 37 to 57 caused 19 deaths and 13 injuries, he said.
