Women dominate again in civil service exams, claim top 4 ranks
Women power at its best, says federal minister as they take up 14 of first 25 spots
For the second consecutive year, women have topped the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations securing four out of the first five ranks in the results announced yesterday
Ishita Kishore, Garima Lohia, Uma Harathi N and Smriti Mishra have secured the top four ranks, respectively, in the UPSC 2022 results. Mayur Hazarika from Assam secured the All India rank 5.
Congratulating the rank holders, Federal Minister Jitendra Singh, tweeted, “Women power at its best!”
933 to be inducted
A total number of 933 candidates — 613 men and 320 women — were recommended by the Commission for appointment to various services, as per the official release by the department.
Ishita Kishore, is a graduate in economics from Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce. Garima Lohia is a Commerce graduate from Kirorimal College DU. Uma Harathi N is a B.Tech. graduate in Civil Engineering from IIT, Hyderabad, and the fourth topper Smriti Mishra is a BSc. graduate from Miranda House College, Delhi University.
The top 25 candidates comprise 14 women and 11 men, it said.
The civil services examination is conducted annually in three stages — preliminary, main and interview — by the UPSC to select officers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) among others.
3 from Delhi University
Kishore qualified the examination with political science and international relations as her optional subject. She has graduated in Economics from Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi.
Lohia, a graduate in Commerce from Kirorimal College, University of Delhi, secured the second rank with Commerce and Accountancy as her optional subject.
Harathi N, a B. Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT, Hyderabad stood third with Anthropology as her optional subject. Mishra, a graduate (BSc.) from Miranda House College, University of Delhi, stood fourth with Zoology as her optional subject.
Last year, Shruti Sharma had secured All India Rank 1 in the UPSC CSE 2021 exam. All the top three positions were secured by women.
