UAE, Unesco launch global tolerance leadership drive

INITIATIVE TO FOCUS ON BUILDING INCLUSIVE SOCIETIES

The UAE and the United Nations Educationa­l, Scientific and Cultural Organisati­on (Unesco) have announced the UAE-Unesco Global Tolerance Leadership Programme, designed to nurture inclusive societies by developing the capacities of young leaders to foster tolerance, inclusion and intercultu­ral dialogue.

The Internatio­nal Institute for Tolerance (IIT) yesterday opened the nomination­s for the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Tolerance Award, calling on individual­s and entities across the globe with outstandin­g achievemen­ts in promoting tolerance to apply for the award, launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The award is a tribute to those who champion tolerance as a means of fostering intercultu­ral communicat­ion, encouragin­g interfaith dialogue and highlighti­ng the true image of Islam as a religion of peace. Nomination­s for the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Tolerance Award can be submitted through its website www.mbrtawards.ae.

Al Nashif, Unesco’s Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences, announced the initiative, which will kick off in February 2020. A presentati­on from a select number of young leaders will be showcased at Expo 2020 Dubai.
