Al Ain retain President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup title at Zayed Sports City

Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club clinched the President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup for the second year in a row with a grand total of 3,376 points at the end of the fifth and final round of the His Highness Cup at the Mubadala Arena, Zayed Sports City.

The second place was bagged by Al Wahda Jiu-Jitsu Academy with 2,535 points while the third spot was claimed by Al Jazira Club with 1,982 points.

Major General Shaikh Nahyan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Commander of Emiri Guards and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, gave away the prizes. Al Ain was richer by Dh200,000 for their effort while Al Wahda and Al Jazira Club bagged Dh100,000 and Dh50,000 respective­ly. “Year after year, we see major improvemen­ts in this tournament. We are witnessing a rich Jiu-Jitsu season, and with the new rounds that have been added, and the new format the championsh­ip will take next year, we are looking forward to more success,” said Abdulmonei­m Al Hashimi, President of the UAE and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federation­s and Vice-President of the Internatio­nal Federation of Jiu-Jitsu.

Speaking about the new format for the next season, Al Hashimi explained, “The championsh­ip will take a first and second leg format next year, where clubs compete against each other in various rounds. A club needs to gain more medals and points in the two legs to qualify for the next stage. This will make the tournament more challengin­g and exciting at the same time.”
