Man jailed for forgery to sponsormaid
convicted the 30-yearold Emirati, M.S., of tampering with the details on his younger brother’s papers, then giving them to the Dubai Department of Residency and Foreigners Affairs.
The accused denied using a corrector pen to erase his name from his marriage certificate and add that of his brother, A.S.
He also denied using the certificate to apply for a work visa for an Ethiopian housemaid against Dh3,000.
Prosecutors said he wrote his brother’s name and photocopied the papers.Then he handed themto staff at theDepartment of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, where he asked for a file to be opened in his brother’s name with the purpose of issuing the housemaid’s visa.
A.S. claimed his brother asked him for a copy of his passport to get an etisalat SIM card.
“He claimed his passportwas confiscated,” A.S. told prosecutors. “He claimed he needed a copy of my passport to get a distinguished mobile number.
“Latermy aunt toldmymother that M.S. processed visas after forging documents in the names of his uncle and father. M.S. contacted my mother and confessed to her that he issued visas using forged documents because he needed money.”
Prosecution records said the staff at the Department of Residency and Foreigners Affairs discovered the forgery.
Records said the defendant admitted during questioning that he collected Dh3,000 from the housemaid.
The judgment remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
