The Russian Army Choir was originally founded to cheer up and motivate the Soviet people and soldiers. In addition to being an army choir, the Alexandrov Ensemble plays an important role in world music history.
From Russian folk songs to the church music, opera arias and the hit songs of the countries in which they give concerts, the choir has many songs in its repertoire.
As one of the founders of the choir, the composer of the world famous “National Anthem of the Soviet Union,” Alexander Alexandrov, conducted the choir until he passed away. A great number of Turkish songs and folk songs including “Genç Osman” by Barış Manço and “Şıkıdım” by Tarkan were performed by the Russian Army Choir on the CRR stage many times.
