Blue Canyon C’ship attracts top talent

-

Eleven Thai golfers will be up against some of the top KLPGA players at the inaugural Blue Canyon Ladies Championship 2024 in Phuket on March 15-17.

The tournament is jointly organised by Blue Canyon Country Club, renowned as one of Thailand’s most picturesque golf courses, and the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Tour (KLPGA).

Set against the stunning backdrop of Blue Canyon Country Club, the premier 54-hole no-cut tournament boasts a prize purse of US$650,000 (approximately 22,750,000 baht).

Among the entrants are 11 local players — the largest Thai contingent ever witnessed in a KLPGA Tour event — and four of the top 10 players on the KLPGA Tour including Lee Ye-Won (KLPGA Tour No.1), Kim Su-Ji (No.3), Park Ji-Young (No.4) and Park HyunKyung (No. 6).

“I’m thrilled and grateful for the chance to participate in this event. I’ve previously competed in the KLPGA Tour, once in South Korea on an invitation. Now, having the opportunity to play in Thailand fills me with joy,” said former Thailand’s No.1 golfer Pornanong Phatlum, winner of 21 professional titles and runner-up in the 2018 Women’s British Open, during a press conference yesterday.

“The prospect of playing at the esteemed Blue Canyon Golf Course, renowned as one of Thailand’s premier courses, adds a special significance to this occasion.

“Thailand’s golf industry has seen remarkable growth and development, with our golfers increasingly making their mark internationally. This has piqued the interest of parents, who now see golf as a sport they want to introduce to their children. I see this as a positive sign for the future of golf in Thailand,” said Pornanong.

Tickets for the tournament are available for purchase at Blue Canyon Country Club (tel 062-245-7999). Full access passes for all three days of the tournament are priced at 1,000 baht, while admission for Saturday and Sunday is priced at 800 baht. Daily tickets are available at prices ranging from 400500 baht.

Alternatively, fans can indulge in the luxurious BBC Lodge package, which offers exclusive amenities at the BBC Terrace, including complimentary food service, exciting lucky draw prizes and access to exclusive competitions.
