The Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation is holding the 15th “Mai Khao Turtle Fun Run And Half Marathon” to raise funds for its commitment to protect the marine and coastal environmen­t and ecosystems for the well-being of the sea turtles that nest in the Mai Khao beach and surroundin­g areas in Phuket.

Scheduled for Oct 20, the fundraisin­g sports event will be a fun, fitness and family-oriented affair open to runners of all ages. It expects to attract more than 4,500 participan­ts.

There will be a 3km family run; a 5km fun run; a 10.5km mini marathon; a 21.1km half marathon; and a virtual run and a VIP run for all distances.

The event will kick off with the 21.1km half marathon at 5am at Phuket Gateway. The race will then go northwest along the Haad Sai Kaew beach towards Thao Thep Krasatti bridge, along Road 3006 to Pi Lai viewpoint area before looping back in front of the beach club and returning along the route to Baan Tha Nun towards the iconic Sarasin bridge before finishing back at the start.

The entry fee is 490 baht for the fun run, 590 baht for the mini marathon, 760 baht for the half marathon, 1,590 baht for VIP run for all distances, and 1,590 baht per family (two adults and 2 children aged under 12 years) for the family run category. The fees include a running shirt and a medal.

For those who can’t attend the event, they may sign up for the virtual race, a flexible running event that runners can participat­e from any location, at any pace.

There are four distances to choose from — 3km, 5km and 10.5km (registrati­on fee is 399 baht per person) and 21.1km (registrati­on fee is 550 baht). Runners should submit their finish time and race result picture from Oct 12-20 to facebook @ Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation and facebook @ 15th Turtle Fun Run 2019.
