Magnificent costumes on display in Phitsanulok
The heritage of local wisdom of three provinces in lower northern Thailand will be presented through a collection of hand-woven fabrics and gold accessories during the “Magnificent Costumes” exhibition at CentralPlaza Phitsanulok from tomorrow until Sunday.
The exhibition will showcase applied textiles from Phitsanulok province, 200-year-old woven fabrics from Uttaradit’s Tai Yuan Lap Lae Sinh Textile Museum, gold jewellery worth 20 million baht from Sukhothai’s Ban Thong Somsamai shop, and accessories whose designs are inspired by fabric motifs and created by instructors and students from Naresuan University’s Faculty of Architecture, using 3D printing. The highlights will be three fashion shows of contemporary costumes made from different kinds of fabrics on each day, starting at 5pm. The first show, on Friday, will feature 15 outfits whose fabric motifs were designed by students and instructors from Naresuan University.
Gracing the catwalk on Saturday will be 30 outfits made from woven fabrics of Lap Lae district in Uttaradit, collectively called Lap Lae textiles, designed by Asst Prof Dr Danai Reabsakul and tailored by Myriad Grand Monde. The last show, on Sunday, will see 15 costumes made from applied textiles from Phitsanulok.
On Saturday at 2pm, there will be a special fashion show where a troupe of models, led by famous actress Kemmanij Jamikorn and former beauty queen Warangkanang Wuttayakorn, will present special costumes and Sukhothai gold jewellery. This will be followed by a discussion on local-wisdom conservation and the designing of Lap Lae textiles and gold accessories, at 3pm.
