EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT
This stunning Colombian film recounts the early 20th century expedition of a German ethnologist who meets Karamakate, a shaman of an Amazonian tribe living deep in the jungle. They become friends, and together they set out to find a sacred healing plant while contemplating the trauma of colonial rule. Directed by Ciro Guerra. At selected SF cinemas.

In this sequel, Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne return as a couple who finds their life a living hell after a raucous sorority moves in next door. Led by Shellby (Chloe Grace Moretz), the girl gang throws all sorts of rowdy parties that disturb the neighbours. Rise stars Tom Hiddleston as a doctor who moves into an apartment building and begins to stir up the class-based resentment and horror among the inhabitants, fuelled by the 1970s social anxiety, sex and endless parties. Directed by Ben Wheatley.

Based on a true story, this Palestinian film tells the story of Mohamad Assaf, a young refugee from Gaza who goes on to win the singing contest Arab Idol. CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR
The superheroes clash, physically and ideologically, in this episode starring Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier and many more. Political pressure tries to rope the superheroes into a UN supervision. Iron Man agrees, but Captain America doesn’t, and things come to a head. Directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo.
COLONIA
Daniel Bruhl and Emma Watson star in this political thriller set during the Pinochet era in 1970s Chile. He plays a student activist who is captured and forced to join a secret cult run by ex-Nazi Paul Schafer, a devious ally of General Pinochet. Watson plays Lena, who infiltrates the cult to help her boyfriend. Directed by Florian Gallenberger.
RACE
A biopic of Jesse Owens (Stephen James), an African-American runner who rises from obscurity to become a US hero. The film focuses on his participation in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin at the height of Adolf Hitler’s power. Directed by Stephen Hopkins.
THE JUNGLE BOOK
Rudyard Kipling’s story is turned into a live action adventure by Disney. Neel Sethi plays Mowgli, a boy who’s been raised in the jungle by a panther and a bear. Threatened by a manhating tiger, Mowgli flees and journeys on a path of self-discovery in the teeming Indian jungle. Directed by Jon Favreau.
