Akeyuth killing report submitted
Public prosecutors expect to make an indictment decision on the murder of businessman Akeyuth Anchanbutr within a week.
Pongniwat Yutthapanboriparn, the director-general of the Department of Criminal Litigation under the Office of the Attorney-General, said police had submitted an investigative report on the murder case to the Office of Criminal Litigation 6 on Aug 15.
After reviewing the report, the public prosecutor team in charge of the case found it contained some unclear information. Prosecutors then asked police to conduct additional investigations to make the report more complete.
Police re-submitted the report to the prosecutor team, which found it much clearer.
Mr Pongniwat said public prosecutors should be able to recommend an indictment decision by Wednesday.
Akeyuth, a staunch critic of Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her brother Thaksin Shinawatra, was reported missing on June 6. His body was found in the southern province of Phatthalung on June 12.
Police said his driver Santiphap Pengduang and associates killed him for money. Metropolitan police commissioner Pol Lt Gen Khamronwit Thoopkrajang told a press conference yes- terday that public prosecutors had ordered police to conduct additional interrogation on four topics.
He did not elaborate on them but said that the request by public prosecutors was normal.
His deputy Pol Maj Gen Anuchai Lekbamrung said the request for additional questioning was aimed at improving the investigative report.
Department of Special Investigation (DSI) director-general Tarit Pengdith yesterday dismissed the possibility of his department taking over the investigation into the murder. He said police had already sent their investigative report to public prosecutors.
