Equipment for children’s dialysis to arrive in Suriname
Thanks to the support of the Republic Bank children will also receive dialysis with children’s equipment.
The children are currently receiving dialysis with the equipment that is intended for adults. The entire project costs $ 131,000 and is being financed by the Republic Bank.
Werner Keenswijk, peadiatrician/ nephrologist at the Diakonessenhuis, pointed out that at least one child receives dialysis every day and that between 15 and 25 children receive dialysis each year. The objective is to get the children’s dialysis center upandrunning within the next 6 months. Keenswijk explained that this will be the only kidney dialysis center in the region and that officials also plan on helping children from the region. According to Keenswijk, there are currently 10 dialysis centers in Suriname. “Children come from all corners of the nation. Children from the hinterland who also receive dialysis had to move to the city in order to minimize costs.
Sean Hussain, managing director at Republic Bank, explained that investments must be made in the treatment of children with kidney problems. He is looking forward to a successful partnership to actualize this project as soon as possible.
This project was presented to and approved by the Republic Bank as part of its social program, The Power to Make A Difference. The bank strongly believes that this project will be a huge improvement to trhe healthcare of children with kidney problems.
