$ttorney General 5oy %aidjnath Panday has instructed the Fraud 'ivision of the Police Force 6uriname (.P6) to investigate payments made by the 5oad $uthority. 0ember of Parliament (0P) $siskumar Gajadien (VHP) confirmed the reports and explained that he and 0P 'ew 6harman and 0P Patricia (tnel have received a reTuest for more information from the Fraud 'ivision. He pointed out that he and his colleagues have already sent more information so that this case can be investigated thoroughly. The legislators had sent a letter to the $G, asking that an investigation be launched. They explained that the president had not kept his promise to launch the investigation. When 0P Gajadien presented this case in Parliament several weeks ago he claimed that the 5oad $uthority had deposited 65' 54,000 into the bank account of the 1ational 'emocratic Party (1'P) at the Volkscredietbank (V&%) for the purchase of flags.
The former 0inister of Public Works, -erry 0iranda, told Parliament that the 1'P had given the 5oad $uthority a loan and that the 5oad $uthority had simply paid back the money. He then handed papers over as evidence. President 'esi %outerse acknowledged that rules were possibly violated but explained that no money was stolen. He also promised to launch an investigation. The president also added that things were done in the nation¶s best interest and that there was nothing wrong with that. 0P Gajadien explained that he and his colleagues detected many irregularities regarding this case and that attempts were made to mislead the nation.
