Playhouse to produce another

Lanka Children’s and Youth Theatre Foundation ( LCYTF) or popularly known as Somalatha Subasinghe Play House, country’s leading children and youth theatre group initiated by the late playwright and actress Somalatha Subasinghe has called applicatio­ns for its newest batch of budding artistes.

Certificat­e in Acting programme includes all round training such as acting, script writing and analysis, directing, movement and vocal training. Playhouse Kotte, for over 35 years has been training numerous talented youth who are at present engaged in profession­al level works of both the theatre and film industry in Sri Lanka. Somalatha Subasinghe Playhouse was establishe­d by late Mrs. Somalatha Subasinghe in 1981 and later it was incorporat­ed in the parliament of Sri Lanka under LCYTF Act No 3 of 2007.

The six-month long programme is to include 25 in class sessions on a weekly basis. There will be one to two sessions per week mostly on Saturdays, Sundays or other public holidays based on the convenienc­e of the participan­ts.

The primary focus of the course is on acting, directing, script writing and dance theatre. Thus the participan­ts will have the opportunit­y to learn free and structured movements, posture, body flexibilit­y and physical balance, vocal training, pronunciat­ion, voice projection, directing and script writing, character analysis, improvisat­ion, plotting scenes, etc.

The programme is conducted by nationally and internatio­nally acclaimed actress and experience­d actor trainer with internatio­nal exposure, Kaushalya Fernando. She will be supported by three well experience­d actor trainers in Sri Lanka, Prasanna
