ANDANTE 2K19 - SLTC organises Interunive­rsity Music Competitio­n

The Grand Finale of “Andante 2K19”; the Inter University Music Competitio­n organised by the students of Sri Lanka Technologi­cal Campus (SLTC) was held on 29th of November 2019 at Royal College Navarangah­ala.

The event initiated with the chieftains­hip of distinguis­hed guests such as the group chairman of Sri Lanka Telecom; Mr. Kumarasing­he Sirisena and the Founder President of SLTC; Eng. Ranjith Rubasinghe. The panel of judges included Mr. Nadeeka Guruge, Mr. Jananath Warakagoda, and Mr. Rohana Dharmakeer­thi who examined the talents of the participan­ts from University of Moratuwa, University of Colombo, National School of Business Management (NSBM), College of Chemical Science ( CCS), Sri Lanka Institute of Informatio­n Technology ( SLIIT), Colombo Internatio­nal Institute of Higher Education ( CIIHE) and Sri Lanka Technologi­cal Campus (SLTC) who were among the selected to compete in the finale through the preliminar­y round of an online audition.

Andante 2K19 was the firstever on stage interunive­rsity musical competitio­n organised by the undergradu­ates of SLTC. Ten finalist groups from universiti­es across the country took centre stage in showcasing their talents throughout the competitio­n.

The winners were chosen under two categories namely ‘ The Most Popular Group’ and ‘ The Best Performing Group’. “The Most Popular Group” was selected by the Facebook shares of their audition videos and the audience votes. “The Best Performing Group” was chosen by the panel of judges. In addition, the event featured two guest performanc­es by Mr. Randhir Wi t a n a a n d M r. Ridma Weerawarde­na.

At the end of series of the competitiv­e sessions ‘Legato’ from University of Moratuwa won “The Best Performanc­e” title along with 100,000LKR cash award. ‘Reteena’ from Sri Lanka Technologi­cal Campus became 1st runners up with 50,000LKR cash award. ‘Octane 95’ represente­d Sri Lanka Institute of Informatio­n

Technology became 2nd runners up with a cash award worth 25,000LKR. The Vocal groups from University of Moratuwa and CIIHE recieved a special appreciati­on from the judges for their sheer talent and commitment. Winner of the “Most Popular Performanc­e” was also ‘Legato’ from University of Moratuwa who received 100,000LKR cash award. Andante 2K19 created a perfect musical platform that enabled undergradu­ates from both State and Nonstate Higher Educationa­l Institutes to showcase their talents in front of a grand audience.

The participan­ts enjoyed the opportunit­y to express their unique artistic abilities which entertaine­d and amused the audience. It was a healthy competitio­n geared by a lot of commitment, hard work and dedication of students.

Ultimately, Andante 2K19 remained memories in the hearts of the students along with the hope of returning onstage next year.
