For this Christmas season, Contempo, the past pupils’ choir of St. Bridget’s Convent, will be staging an evening of choral Christmas music at their concert ‘ Joyful Hope’ on December 9, at the Russian Cultural Centre, Colombo 7.

The concert will feature many Christmas classics in a multitude of genres ranging from gospel, jazz and pop. A guest performance by The Old Joes’ Choir is also something to look forward to.

From its inception in 2001, this all-female vocal ensemble with a passion for music and singing has been specialising in diverse genres of music under the guidance of many well known choral directors.

From public performances such as September (2009), Viva la Diva (2012), Reel Music (2015) and Forever in Song ( 2018) to having held their first classical concert earlier this year in March, Contempo has shared with audiences their incredible singing talent.

Their repertoire also consists of performing at various public and corporate events, weddings, and they have been part of the Symphony Orchestra Christmas Concerts in 2009, 2013 and 2016. The choir has also joined the Symphony Orchestra for various concerts such as ' A Night at the opera - 2014' and ' St. John's Passion' conducted by Gregory Rose. The choir also participated in the ‘Asia Pacific Choir Games 2017’ under its current choral director Harin Amirthanathan bringing back home four gold and a silver medals.

The proceeds of the concert will be distributed to The Soup Bowl Centre, a charity which provides a wholesome lunch every Friday to more than 160 underprivileged persons and to Marc Sri Sarana Sewa, a home for disabled orphans and the destitute.
