Innovative technology for water treatment plants and construction industry

- By Jayampathy Jayasinghe

It is arguably at the forefront of innovation that Don Ganegoda, a Sri Lanka businessman domiciled in the US started out, having migrated to the US three decades ago.

It was in 2009 that he started a BOI venture in Sri Lanka having brought in new technology that few persons understood at that time. Water and waste water purification is the main focus of the EDGENG company, said Don Ganegoda, CEO/ Managing Director EDGENG addressing a media briefing held at the Galadari Hotel Colombo recently.

“We provide equipment for companies in the US city governments that deal with water purification and waste water. We also have been providing equipment to the few water treatment companies in Sri Lanka during the past 10 years. Ninety Eight ( 98 per cent) of EDGENG’s business is built on providing equipment to companies that deal with water purification and waste water processes to save environmental degradation. I want to create an awareness in Sri Lanka by building more waste water treatment plants to salvage the environment at large,” he added.

The other focus of EDGENG is for Sri Lanka to build architectural designs. “We have built the City Hotel’s architecture by attaching lightweight material such as FRP material that is corrosive resistant and stronger than steel. We have specially designed this for the hotel industry. We have also done the Sheraton Hotel and Kingsbury Hotel roof top in Colombo.” Referring to the waste disposal of the industrial sector in Sri Lanka, Mr. Ganegoda said they have methodology to overcome the problem.

EDGENG which started as a small business 10 years ago has nearly 100 employees and two sister companies in Sri Lanka with the head office based in the US. EDGENG offers technology necessary to manufacture high quality custom FRP ( FIBER Reinforced Polymer) products for land, marine and aviation sectors. Having manufactured FRP components for the past decade EDGENG is certified by NSF 61 and ISO 9001 to mainly concentrate on WWTPS all over the world showing its excellence in FRP Weirs and Baffles. A BOI venture, EDGENG contributes 20 per cent to the Sri Lankan market every year in relation to the construction sector with FRP Moldings/ Guiding Tiles, FRP, FRP Security Cabins, FRP Water Tanks and all customer-based FRP products.
