Sachin steers Petes to victory

Sachin Silva’s allround performanc­e paved the way for St. Peter’s to record a 3-wicket win over Prince of Wales in the Under-17 pre-quarter final encounter played at De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa.

Prince of Wales taking first lease of the wicket was helped by half tons from Shaminda Viraj and Ravindu Lochana for them to make a modest score of 214 for 7. But that was in vain as Sachin’s knock of 82 enabled St. Peter’s to reach the target in the 49th over and to advance to the quarter-finals.

Half tons by Dulaj Ranatunga and Janith Deshan enabled Maliyadeva to record a two wicket win over St. Joseph’s in a high scoring game of the pre-quarter-final match played at Kurunegala.

St. Joseph’s batting first with the help of Revan Kelly’s knock of 86 made a formidable score of 260. Maliyadeva thanks to Dulaj and Janith in their run chase reached the target in the 47th over to advance to the quarter-finals.

Ananda qualified to the quarter-finals with an easy 89 runs win over Gurukula MV Kelaniya in the pre-quarter-final match played at the Prison ground, Mahara.

Ananda who scored 187 in their turn restricted the home team to a score of 98 runs.

Ravindu Hansika and Pramitha Thevareppu­ruma cracked half tons while Ashen Kandamby bagged a five wicket haul to help Mahinda coast to a convincing 113-run win over Kingswood in the pre-quarter final match played at Galle.

Unbeaten half tons by Vihan Gunasekera and Muditha Lakshan enabled DSS to record a comfortabl­e seven wicket win over Devapathir­aja MMV Rathgama in the pre-quarter-final encounter played at Reid Avenue. St. Aloysius qualified to the quarter-final with a comfortabl­e six wicket win over Wesley in the pre-quarter-final match played at Campbell Park.
