Matale Vijaya unbeaten in Dutta Hockey Sevens C'ship

The reigning Champions, Matale Vijaya College lads continued their dominance in the seven-a-side version of School Hockey which they had been enjoying during the last four years, as they emerged unbeaten champions at the inaugural ‘Duta Sevens’ invitation schools seven-a-side hockey tournament for boys under 19 concluded last Saturday at Vincent Dias Stadium in Badulla.

They beat fancied Joseph Vas College Wennappuwa 3-2 on penalties in a closely contested Cup Final, which had ended in a scoreless draw at full time.

Gihan Sangeeth Amarasingh­e of Vijaya Matale was adjudged as the best player while the award for the best goal keeper was won by Chamalka Rukshan of Joseph Vas Wennappuwa.

The tournament was organised and conducted by old Dutians Hockey Associatio­n of Dharmaduta College, Badulla.
