SAEGIS campus to hold seminar to offer students career guidance and employment pathways

Today, many students are faced with the competitiv­e situation of being able to make multiple career changes throughout their lives and continuall­y upgrade their skills. Therefore the importance of establishi­ng a quality career guidance programme is particular­ly important if today’s learners are to successful­ly adapt, and be geared to face future labour market challenges.

With this in mind, Saegis Campus will be organizing a career guidance seminar on the 10th, 11th and 14th September 2015. The Seminar on the 10th will be held in Gampaha, whilst the seminars conducted on the 11th and the 14th will be held at the main Saegis Campus in Kohuwala, Nugegoda.

The main resource person at the seminar will be D r. ChamindaWe­erasiriwar­dena, a medical doctor attached to the General Hospital Kandy who has conducted many successful workshops and seminars on psychologi­cal counseling at various government institutes and private sector organizati­ons.

The prime motive of organising a seminar of this nature is to provide a stable foundation of confidence and knowledge for students sitting the Advanced Level examinatio­n which is a significan­t and decisive milestone in their lives.

About 4000 students are expected to participat­e in these seminars that will cover many topics that will give students a clear view of what they can expect from various educationa­l courses, and will help them to make more informed and better educationa­l and career choices. It will provide informatio­n on career options, the type of academic and occupation­al training needed to succeed in the workplace, and postsecond­ary opportunit­ies that are associated with their field of interest.

Some of the leading banks such as Sampath and DFCC will also be present at the seminar to offer students some attractive loanfacili­ties.

Saegis Campus Academic Dean Chandima H. de Silva commenting about this seminar said that Saegis is pleased to initiate events of this caliber which assist students of our country to realize the true potential bestowed in them. He added that this was a part of the institute’s ultimate objective of producing academical­ly qualified people that are also competent, individual­s who can take up challenges and make a mark in their respective profession­s in today’s competitiv­e business world. He further stated the institute plans to hold workshops of a similar nature in other parts of the country as well.

Saegis Campus presently has academic links with two prestigiou­s UK universiti­es namely HeriotWatt University and Birmingham City University.

Saegis Campus is a BOI ( Board of Investment) approved project located in a picturesqu­e and scenic block of land between Kohuwala and Nugegoda, with easy access to the capital city.
