The range and exceptional quality of higher education establishments in Germany means that those looking to study there are often spoilt for choice.

Germany has private as well as state-run universities, and this is also the case with the universities of applied sciences as well as the specialist art and music schools. Some 95 per cent of the country’s higher education institutions are government funded and owned, while just five per cent are in the private sector. Most students opt for state universities as these charge low or no tuition fees (source: DAAD)

Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences is a new university (founded in 1992) with a modern profile in the federal state of Brandenburg. Today, about 2,600 students are enrolled at the university, studying in well- equipped teaching facilities and laboratories in a leafy campus setting, just an hour’s drive from Berlin.

The 20 modern Bachelor and Master Degree programmes can be studied in three faculties: “Business and Management”, “Engineering” and “Informatics and Media”.

All Programmes are accredited and therefore offer a high quality of education. All Bachelor programmes include an internship in a local, regional or international company. Professors from the university have excellent contacts to public and private sector companies and institutions in the region and are involved with them in research projects and technology transfer. They also collaborate successfully in international research projects.

Internationality is an important issue for Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences, where the student community is remarkably diverse. 240 international students currently study at Brandenburg University. They come from 60 countries, the largest national group being from Indonesia. Special integration and mentoring programmes and of course buddy students help international students to familiarise and gain an understanding of German academic norms. The university actively encourages international interaction, for instance through a tandem language exchange programme. All students, also from abroad, are well prepared to enter the German and international job market after graduation. A recently completed state-funded project helped easing the integration of foreign graduates into the job market of the State of Brandenburg.

Nevertheless, studying is not only hard work, but should also comprise time to experience Germany and the region BerlinBrandenburg. The historic city of Brandenburg is a charming town with a lot of history combined with an unrivalled nature. Today, about 70,000 inhabitants live here. History, culture and nature are closely entwined in the town, which once gave the name to the federal state of Brandenburg. With a theatre, museums and several festivals there is also something for everyone interested in culture. And for those who are still eager to experience more, Berl i n , Germany’s capital and cultural
