Is Interim Committees panacea to all sports’
no it isn’t a fix-all kind of solution. Each and every association has its own constitution and they should follow the constitution and elect the favourable people for the respective association. Personally I am not in favour of interim committees. Interim means temporary but at the end of day how long can it survive? There should definitely be a time frame specified. ing stock. Interim Committees are a necessary evil. However, they can be justified if a major anomaly is evident in a sports association, especially if it is meant to address acute maladministration, financial mismanagement or fraudulent activity and or very degenerative performance. Ideally such action warranting an interim administration must be made in collaboration with the parent international body, which has provisions to support such initiatives and offer sound remedial action. It is not prudent to take unilateral action because it goes against international constitutions and conventions. Interim committees are an extreme measure and must apply only in extreme circumstances.
ASimple answer is no, interim committees cannot cater to the particular federation stake holder’s needs. These committees are appointed and thus leaving way for not fit candidates sneaking into the panel. Thus far most of the other sports interim committees have failed to fulfil their duties in the recent past and does not fulfil the expectations of the stakeholders and all parties interested. Most importantly interim committees aren’t recognized by international federations and do not align with the International Olympic Charter. Interim committees are needed to root out the corruption of the current system, and to ensure the smooth transition during this term of turmoil. Interim committees act like a big brother stepping into rescue the situation before it escalates into an even bigger issue.
