Interior Design is the art or process of designing the interior of a room or building, in such a way that it facilitates the activities to be held in the given space whilst bringing about an aesthetically pleasant environment to work in.
Interior designers as the professionals are responsible for making interior spaces attractive, safe and functional. They use their knowledge of colors, lighting, and materials to decorate, while also following building codes and regulations. Interior designers also require a strong sense of style and creativity when choosing furnishings and fabrics for their clients. They must be able to visualize the way different design components will come together in the end. Being able to effectively communicate with design teams, clients, Architects and Engineers is an important aspect of the job. Strong problem-solving, Project Management skills are also necessary because projects must be kept within the stated budget and timeline Interior designers may work for specialized design services firms, architectural businesses, furniture stores, or directly for the construction industry. However, most of the interior design professionals are self- employed. There fore, becoming a professional interior designer takes more than creativity. A successful career in the field also requires formal education and training, discipline, determination and strong Business, Marketing and Management skills.

According to Prasanna Aluthge the Director of OCBT, “the students will be focusing on 2D and 3D designing initially along with the decorative aspect of design. Special knowledge is given on how to communicate with a client and present ideas clearly and precisely. Further, the student will go on to develop a deeper understanding of com- mercial and residential buildings, spatial layout, furnishings and decorative treatments, and documentation, he added.
