Aeronautical Engineering Degree Programmes now at CINEC

With Sri Lanka fast tracking into aviation related infrastructure, the potential demand for professionals in related fields would be on the rise. The Faculty of Engineering and Technology of CINEC will offer four- year Aero n a u t i c a l Engineering degree programs in collaboration with the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) of Russia under a “2+2” study mode. The degree programs will commence this September ( 2014). This is a great education opportunity for students who aspire to become Aeronautical Engineers.
As an Aero n a u t i c a l Engineering student at CINEC, will explore aerodynamics, aircraft structures, propulsion systems, manufacturing, aircraft electronics, control systems, and navigation as appropriate for the program. Aeronautical engineering is a branch of study on how things fly in the Earth’s atmosphere. It is about how aircrafts are designed, constructed, powered, and how they are controlled for safe operation. It is multi- disciplinary in nature encompassing a very broad range of technical areas.
Students study the first two years of a four-year program at CINEC and transfer to Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) for the next two years. At CINEC, students receive instruction of courses approved by MAI and jointly delivered by MAI and CINEC faculty members.
The entire “2+2” Aeronautical Engineering programme will be conducted in the English medium both at CINEC and in Russia. It is the first time in the Russian history that it is conducting a degree programme in the English medium. It is also the first time a reputed academic institution such as MAI is conducting a degree programme in Sri Lanka. MAI staff will periodically visit CINEC campus both to teach and to moderate. During the final two academic years when the students are following the programme in Russia, MAI will provide accommodation to students from Sri Lanka. Medical insurance coverage too will be arranged by MAI as part of the programme.
The Moscow Aviation Institute is one of the leading engineering universities in the world dedicated to aerospace technologies. More than 140,000 students including 1100 international students from over 38 countries across the world have graduated from MAI after its foundation in 1930. By the turn of this century ( the twenty- first century), MAI had grown to consist of more than 1700 professors and lecturers that include both 350 full- professors ( D. Sc) and 800 associate professors ( D. Eng) who teach more than 20,000 undergraduate, graduate and post- graduate students at 10 schools, 4 institutes and 4 branches of the university.
Job opportunities for aeronautical engineers are available with national, international, public, and private airline services, civil aviation, armed forces, various government departments and regulatory authorities, employers who provide technical services or manufacture specialist products to the aerospace industry, software companies functioning in the aerospace domain, and aircraft design and manufacturing companies to mention a few.
The total cost of the degree programme can be considered very moderate when compared to the cost of similar education in other developed countries.
