Seminar on International Trade and Letters of Credit hosted by the Post Graduate School of ANC Education

-

The Post Graduate School of ANC Education, the premier transnational education conglomerate of Sri Lanka has conducted a series of informative seminars on time- relevant themes over the last few years. With a view of strengthening the knowledge on generic law, the school has organized a special seminar on International Trade Law and Letters of Credit. The event would take place at Cinnamon GrandCedar Room on the 13th August 2014 from 6.00pm- 7.00pm.

This event is aimed at offering participants, an in- depth knowledge on the pertinent topic by the eminent speaker Mr. UdithaEgalahewa LL. M ( Col), LL. M ( Malta), President’s Counsel.

The event would also facilitate people from the public, private and non- profit sectors and promotes the sharing of business acumen amongst like-minded professionals.

Mr. UdithEgalahewa counts over twenty four years at the Bar. He was appointed as a president’s counsel in 2012. Mr. Egalahewa is presently a leading practitioner in Public Law and Commercial Law in the original courts as well as superior courts of Sri Lanka. He is also a lecturer at Sri Lanka Law College. Mr. Egalahewa had his initial legal education at Sri Lanka Law College followed by a Masters in Law ( LLM), University of Colombo and a second Master’s degree ( LLM), a World Bank sponsored scholar, from the inter national Maritime Law Institute of Malta in which he graduated with a distinction and was awarded the professor Walter Muller Prize. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Insurance Law from the University of Colombo.

International trade is the back- bone of our modern, commercial world, as producers in various nations try to profit from a world market place, rather than be limited to selling within their own borders. There are many reasons that trade across national borders occurs, including lower production costs in one region versus another, specialized industries, lack or surplus of natural resources and consumer tastes.

While English law remains of enormous commercial importance, considerable steps have been taken over the last two decades, at an international level, towards the harmonization of international trade law. Thus, the event would consist certain traditional yet vital topics, such as International Sales Law, Payments and Finance in International Trade, International Carriage Law, Inter national Commercial Arbitration, and International Competition Law.

The seminar is designed to give students interested in careers in international trade or in trade-related government departments a firm introduction to both the law and practice in this challenging and complex area. The skills and knowledge offered are particularly useful if you want to work in law, importexport, insurance, investment, shipping and freight, commodities, or intellectual property. It would also appeal to those who intend to pursue careers in international and national trade, and marketing bodies, as well as in government and academic posts.

It is ideally suited for students from a law, business, management, politics or other social science background, providing an opportunity to explore this dynamic area of law. If you want to participate in this invaluable seminar you can call 0777 490 390 and reserve your seats today.
