Malay CC bounce back

After conceding a 1-0 lead to Kotalawela Defence University at the short whistle, Malay CC bounced back to post a 2-1 win in their Pioneer Shield hockey fixture a the Padang recently.

In the 11th minute of play, centre forward L.A. Liyadapath­i put KDA one up with a field goal.

After the change of ends, Malay CC equalised in the 45th minute when M. Fathiq scored Malay’s first goal off a pass from centre M.H. Rizkee. Two minutes later M. Fathiq worked the ball past the KDA defenders for centre half S. Omerdeen to score and give Malay CC a 2-1 win.

The game was controlled by Satish Kumar and Ajith Jayasena, while Maithree Vithana was the third official. Christo Tissera the hero for CH & FC ‘B’

Left extreme, Christo Tissera was the hero for CH and FC ‘B’ when they defeated Colts by four goals to one in their Pioneer Shield hockey fixture a the Malay grounds recently. At half time, CH and FC ‘B’ held a winning 3-0 lead.

In the 6th minute of play, left extreme Tissera opened CH and FC’s account with a field goal when he scored the opener off a pass from Dharshan Wijesinghe and 10 minutes later Tissera made it 2-0 off a field goal from a pass from Suren Wijewarden­a. In the 19th minute, right half J.K.M. Jayakody taking a pass off right extreme R. Koaralage’s stick made it 3-0.

After the change of ends, Christo Tissera made the tally 4-0 in favour of CH and FC ‘B’ off a pass from centre forward Mansa Jahn.

In the 45th minute of the game, Colts broke their ‘duck’ when centre forward D. Smith passed to forward Steve Silva to make the final score 4-1 in favour of CH and FC ‘B’ UoM win opener over BRC

University of Moratuwa inflicted a 4-0 win over BRC in the opening fixture of the Women;s League Tournament conducted by the Colombo Hockey Associatio­n at the Malay grounds recently. At half time the University were holding a 1-0 lead.

In the 16th minute of play, right inside Dayani Shiromali converted a penalty to give her side the first goal of the day.

After the turn around, Shiromali score the second as well to make it 2-0 and one minute later left extreme H.L.M. Kumari made it 3-0 when she collected a pass from centre forward Apeksha Weeraseker­a. In the 54th minute the university increased their score by another goal when Apeksha Weeraseker­a did a solo run to bang in the fourth and final goal to give the undergradu­ates a 4-0 win.

The game was controlled by Satish Kumar and M. Vithana, while H. L. Mithrapala was the third official. OSSC post 1-0 win over KDU

Old Senanayaki­ans Sports Club posted a 1-0 win over Kotalawela Defence University in their men’s Pioneer Hockey fixture at the Malay grounds recently. At the short whistle neither side had been able to penetrate the others defense.

It was only in the 44th minute of play that the deadlock was broken with a field goal when left inside T. Geeganage worked the ball past the KDU de- fenders and centre half A. Rahuman did the needful to put Old Senanayaki­ans one up and seal victory.

The game was controlled by Sathish Kumar and Maithree Vithana, while H.L. Mithtrapal­a was the third umpire.
