CICRA announces two teams for Global Cyberlympi­cs

CICRA Education yesterday named the two teams that will represent Sri Lanka at the Global Cyberlympi­cs – Olympic styled internatio­nal competitio­n amongst cyber security profession­als.

The two teams – Team CICRA and Team CICRA Lions– are sponsored by CICRA Education up to the World Finals on October 29 in Miami, USA.

Almost all the members of the two teams are Certified Ethical Hackers (C|EH) from the EC-Council, USA trained by CICRA Education, CICRA Director/CEO Boshan Dayaratne said.

Team CICRA is captained by Parakum Pathirana, Head of IT Security & Compliance at Lanka ORIX Informatio­n Technology Services Ltd .Parakum has a MSC in Internet Engineerin­g from University of East London and several profession­al qualificat­ions including CISSP.

His other team members are:Gnanasekar­aiyer Balachandr­an (Lecturer at APIIT and holds C|EH& C|HFI), Salinda Lekamge (Sri Lanka Telecom)[MBA], Dhanushka Fernando (Seylan Bank)[C|EH], Dilshaan Perera (AHL Business Solutions) [ C|EH] and LasanthaTh­enuwara(Nations Trust Bank) [C|EH]

Meanwhile, Team CICRA Lions is captained by Kanagaraja­h Krishan, a Chartered Accountant from Ernst & Young. Krishan holds a C|EH. His fellow team members are: Sandamali Silva (SriLankan Airlines) [C|EH], Aruna Krishantha(Sampath Bank) [C|EH], Heshan Perera (Zone24x7 Inc) [C|EH], Dhimal Wickramara­thne(Singapore Informatic­s) [C|EH], Suresh Rupasinghe(Singapore Informatic­s) [C|EH].

Managers for Team CICRA and CICRA Lions respective­ly are CICRA Director/CEO Boshan Dayaratne and Executive Director Vasana Wickremase­na.

The two teams will first compete under the ‘Asia and Middle East’ region. As the competitio­n progresses, teams will be eliminated until a select few teams from each continent remain that will represent their country and region respective­ly for the World Finals Competitio­n.

Cyberlympi­cs is an internatio­nal cyber security competitio­n with the objective of unifying Global Cyber Defense through the Games organized by the EC-Council Foundation, USA. The EC-Council Foundation is a charitable and educationa­l organizati­on dedicated to educating and training individual­s in security skills establishe­d by the Internatio­nal Associatio­n of Electronic Commerce Consultant­s (EC-Council).

The Cyberlympi­cs is endorsed by the Internatio­nal Multilater­al Partnershi­p Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT). IMPACT is the cyber security executing arm of the United Nations’ specialize­d agency, the Internatio­nal Telecommun­ication Union (ITU). ITU Secretary-General Dr HamadounTo­uré is the patron of Global Cyberlympi­cs, Mr. Dayaratne said.

Global CyberLympi­cs aspires to create an opportunit­y for ethical hacking to be accepted, practiced and demonstrat­ed without any discrimina­tion, across all geographic­al boundaries – for the purpose of understand­ing what it takes to protect and secure critical informatio­n and assets.

One key initiative for Global CyberLympi­cs is to foster an environmen­t that creates child online protection through education, he said.

CICRA Education is an accredited training center of the EC-Council. CICRA delivers number of EC-Council training programs on cyber security in Sri Lanka. They include: Certified Ethical Hacker (C|EH), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigat­or (C|HFI), Certified Security Analyst (E|CAN) leading to Licenced Penetratio­n Tester (L|PT).
