The year was 1996, Sri Lanka won the cricket world cup and emerged as a force to be reckoned with. It was the same year that one man’s vision of branching out and starting an IT company became a reality.

Today the company is no longer a single entity, it is a group of companies known as the Just In Time Group (JIT), which was birthed 24 years ago by Jit Warnakulasuriya’s vision.

As a wholly Sri Lankan ICT group with modest beginnings, Just In Time Group has grown to unparalleled success - cementing its position as the foremost ICT company in Sri Lanka with monumental and landmark projects under its belt with many investments in the field.

With this kind of history and expertise, it is no surprise that it takes time to celebrate the commitment and dedication of its long serving staff who have been instrumental to its success.

Just In Time Group’s Longservice Awards mark incremental milestones for every five years of service of its staff. In December 2019, it held its long service awards felicitating 47 employees celebrating milestones of five years and above all the way to 23 years, at a celebration event held at the Hilton Colombo.

Nearly 50 percent of the long service employees were from 5-9 years of service category, 10 employees in the 10-14 year category, 10 employees in the 15-19 category and foure mployees in the 20 years and above category.

Chief Executive Officer Chrishan Mendis who has witnessed the growth of the company with over 21 years of service, shared a few words congratulating and thanking all the award recipients: “Congratulations to those that have received awards as we recognise your long-service milestones. I am also extremely grateful to you for the time and effort that you have put into in making a change. Thank you for your immense contribution.”

The service awards are a valuable component of Just In Time Group’s overall employee recognition efforts and play an important role in motivating and engaging staff. rewarding loyalty and commitment by recognising those who have dedicated their careers to the company is proof that the organisation values people who are committed and add value to the company.

Chief Operating Officersherene Goonetilleke, who herself counts over 12 years with the company said: “Through their constant contribution, each of our staff supports our mission of being the foremost ICT system and solutions integrator in Sri Lanka. We believe in validating this effort, to recognise our staff for their commitment to our organisation through ups and down. This is our success.”

For Just In Time Group, it is a celebration for the company, as well. The long service awards affirm that they have successfully retained employees for a long period of time. This demonstrates that JIT is a good place to work and deserving of employee loyalty and longevity. The Long-service Awards are a way to celebrate and recognise the value of the people who have committed and built this great company over the years.

The company has been growing and there are many new faces. New hires are encouraged to seek out veteran employees to get to know their stories, find out what motivates them and learn more about the business, which has evolved and grown over the past two decades.

With the retirement of its chairman Jit Warnakulasuriya from his executive capacity, Just In Time Group is headed by its CEO Chrishan Mendis, along with his leadership team.

Although the corporate leadership has evolved over time, Just In Time Group continues to value employee contributions year over year and believes that long service employee milestones should be celebrated and acknowledged.

“This is the second time I was privileged to be a recipient of the long service awards, where my efforts and contributions to JIT was appreciated. I am happy and privileged to be a part of Team JIT for over 13 years and contribute to our success,” said Assistant Bid Managershanthi Perera.

“JIT has taught me that a company is more than just profits and productivity. A successful long-term business is built on key ingredients such as - teamwork, doing what you love for a business you believe in for customers you want to give the best to. This award commemorates that belief in us the employees for giving our best,” said Projects and Support senior Managergihan Amarasinghe, with 14 years of service.

“For 18 years, I feel proud to serve the number one IT company in Sri Lanka. The company gave me an opportunity to grow, and groomed me to be where I am today. I’m passionate about JIT and all we do and extremely grateful to be a member of a company that appreciates and recognises its employees who have contributed to its success,” said Just In Time Groupsales Head Damitha Jayawardena.
