No country should interfere in internal affairs of another country
MP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa says in Parliament
We saw some foreign diplomats who were present at the visitors’ gallery applauding the then opposition during the political crisis
Some foreign diplomats who were in visitors’ gallery applauded the then opposition in Parliament during the political crisis while others attempted to advise us on dealing with the crisis violating the Vienna Convention which says no country should get involved in the internal affairs of another nation, Opposition MP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa told Parliament yesterday.
“We saw some foreign diplomats who were present at the visitors’ gallery applauding the then opposition during the political crisis. We wonder whether foreign diplomats could act in such a biased manner,” Mr. Yapa said.
“Some Foreign Diplomats attempted to advise us on how to deal with the political crisis” he added while highlighting that acting in such a manner is a violation of Vienna Convention which prohibits intervention in another country’s internal affairs.
The MP said Sri Lanka should build up relationship with other countries in a way which does not violate its territorial integrity
“We should follow the example of the past leaders which maintained diplomatic relationships with countries without harming the territorial integrity of Sri Lanka.“Past leaders of this country be it UNP or SLFP safeguarded the territorial integrity of the country and this practice should be carried forward,” he said.
