Helpage Seasonal Greeting Cards Help Senior Citizens

Christmas, the season of giving arrives Helpage is one particular name that would regularly comes to our mind. This is mainly because of the Christmas greetings or cards that are circulated under the name of Helpage Sri Lanka.

This year too, over 5,000,000 Christmas and New Year greeting cards and boxes of Christmas decoration­s have been released by Helpage and are now on sale at Book Shops and Super/ hyper markets in Colombo and other cities.

The proceeds will be utilized to conduct free cataract surgeries and free mobile medical and eye camps for the needy senior citizens who are over 55 years of age.

The Helpage printed a large variety of greeting cards that were adorned with colourful, embossed and normal print graphic designs and foiled designs.

The Christmas Cards depict various themes such as the The birth of Jesus Christ, `Nativity of Christ, a Blessed Christmas, The Holy Christmas, The Everlastin­g Message of Love and Peace, The Picturesqu­e Bethlehem, The Birth of the King of the Jews, Our Saviour and Prince of Peace’.

The boxes of Christmas Decoration­s, which are in various colours could be used to decorate houses and business premises during the Season.

The paintings of New Year Cards have been done by renowned artists, while the photograph­s depict the country’s wildlife, Heritage, Butterflie­s and Elephants.

HASL, Executive Director, Samantha Liyanawadu­ge said elders needed regular medical attention and a large number of elderly patients affected by cataract are reported from various parts of the country. “Since the majority of them are not in a sound financial position, Helpage conducts absolutely free surgeries with the latest foldable Intraocula­r Lenses (IOL’S) at their Eye Hospital in Wellawatta, (Opposite the Savoy Cinema)”.

The cards are priced at Rs. 35 to 40 each and are sold at all leading book shops island-wide including Sarasavi, Vijithayap­a, M.D. Gunasena and Lake House Bookshops and also at Unik Creations, Liberty Plaza and Majestic City, Union Chemist and at Ceylon Business Appliances (CBA).

According to Manager, fund-raising, Ruchilalan­i Batuwanthu­dawa, people could make their contributi­on towards this worthy cause by sending Helpage cards to their loved ones along with their personal greetings.
