Stolen motorcycles sold on forged documents
A stock of stolen motorcycles was recovered and two suspects involved in the racket were arrested by Maho police during a raid yesterday. Police said they seized ten motorcycles that had been sold on forged documents after changing engine numbers and chassis numbers. Under interrogation the suspects disclosed the king pin behind the racket who was a resident of Bandarakoswatta area and on remand at present in connection with a similar incident.
Investigations revealed that the suspects had changed the engine numbers and chassis numbers of the stolen motorcycles at a garage of their own. One of them had dismantled and changed the parts of motorcycles to prevent identification and assembled them again, and the other sold them to buyers for cheap prices. Motorcycles had been sold to individuals in Bandarakoswatta, Wariyapola and Katupota areas.
