KDU post 8-0 win over Old Hinduites

In a one sided ‘B’ division Pioneer Cup hockey fixture, conducted by the Colombo Hockey Associatio­n, Kotalawela Defence University defeated Old Hinduites by eight goals to nil at the Astro turf on Saturday. At half time KDU led 1-0. In the 8th minute of the game, A.R.M. Bandara opened the score for KDU with a field goal.

After the turn around, KDU went on a scoring spree. In the 34th minute K.A. Keeragala added the second and two minutes later, H.M. Ratinda made it 3-0 for KDU. In the 42nd minute, N. Kalinga crossed the Old Hinduite line to make the tally 4-0 and in the 48th minute D. Dandeniya the left extreme got his stick onto the a ball to give KDU their 5th goal and in the 50th minute, M. Irfan made the score 6-0. Five minutes later K. Keeragala shot his second goal to make the score 7-0 and the final goal was by H.N. Herath to give KDU a convincing 8-0 win.

The game was controlled by M. Naushad and H.L. Mithrapala, while Ajith Jayasena was the third umpire. JANADIPATH­I HWBEATUOK

Janadipath­i Hockey Wing defeated University of Kelaniya by nine gold to nil in a women’s hockey fixture conducted by the CHA at the Astro turf on Saturday. At half time, the winners held a 6-0 lead.

In the 10th minute of the game, Nishali Sepala put Janadipath­i one up and in the 12th, Anaka Bohram added the second. For minutes later, Yasitha Prabani shot their third goal and one minute later, Chammi Wasna made the score 4-0 for Janadhipat­hi. In the 22nd and 24th minutes Anaka Bohram added a further two to make it 6-0. After the change of ends, Bohram fired her fourth to give Janadipath­i their 7th goal and in the 38th and 40th minutes Sanduni Gihani and Anaka Borham added one each to give Janadipath­i a 9-0 win.

The match was refereed by M. Naushad and Ajith Jayasena, while D. Jayasena was the third umpire.
