Police accused of sabotaging herbal drink Dansala

The students and teachers of Billewa Vidyalaya, Thanthirim­ale accused the police of sabotaging the herbal drink Dansala for pilgrims organised by them on Sunday (1).

They said Thanthirim­ale Police OIC who visited the scene with police personnel ordered to remove the Dansala immediatel­y.

Police said the students threw the stock of herbal drink and jaggery into the nearby jungle and returned home. The teachers said the students were of low income families and that it was with great difficulty that they had raised funds and organised the herbal drink Dansala.

He said the police that visited the scene ordered the children to remove the Dansala. He pointed out that the children, full of sorrow, poured vessels of herbal drink into the jungle and returned home.

Thanthirim­ale Police OIC Chief Inspector Manawadu said the Dansala had obstructed traffic on the Anuradhapu­ra –Thanthirim­ale road and that he instructed the children and teachers to shift it to another location.
